Job Description
North Georgia College & State University is accepting applications for a communications and event coordinator to work in the Office of University Relations, a division of Institutional Advancement. This position provides writing, communication and event coordination support for University Relations, supports the university's communication efforts with internal and external constituents, including developing content for university publications (print and electronic), event coordination and publicity, and involvement in strategic integrated-marketing communication for NGCSU. This position provides support to the entire campus for communications projects and special events. Reports to the Director of University Relations.
Job Duties
Help develop and coordinate publications for university constituents. Produce substantial content, including stories and photography, for publications and web-based media. Develop news stories, send news to regional news media, liaison for media visiting campus, and communicate with faculty and staff to produce newsworthy articles for media, pitch news of interest to appropriate media. Work with other staff members, volunteers and student workers to stage special events, particularly related to alumni and donor relations. Coordinate event publicity for a wide range of university events open to the public - from fine arts to alumni events. Take photography for communication projects developed through University Relations. Contribute to and assist in management of University Relations photo archive. Support on and off-campus coverage/reporting of special events and activities to support broad and long-term communication projects. Support planning efforts to enhance the university's integrated communications plan.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree, preferably in public relations, journalism or related field, along with two years of related experience are required, or a combination of education and experience. Knowledge of PC platforms; knowledge of printing, photography, web content development; knowledge of software programs (Photoshop, Microsoft Office and other related programs); familiarity with Associated Press (newswriting) style. Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to work well with team members and volunteers. Ability to multitask, manage workload and meet deadlines. Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings to support special events or attend campus events.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
